Every Man Needs a Band of Brothers

Updated: Jan 31, 2020

We live in the age of loneliness and isolation. There has been slew of recent articles lamenting the isolated American. Three out of every five adults report that they sometimes or always feel lonely.

Certain demographics are lonelier than others.

  • Men are slightly lonelier than women.

  • Younger people (18-22) are lonelier than older people (72+)

  • Those living in urban and suburban communities are less lonely than those in rural areas

Social media has a major impact on loneliness. Heavy social media users are significantly more likely to feel alone, isolated, left out and without companionship. There are serious mental health and health implications to all this loneliness. Lonely people have more mental illness and they die younger than those who have close relationships. For creatures created in the image and likeness of a triune God...Father, Son and Holy Spirit...who for endless days have shared infinite love and fellowship, our friendless modern culture with all its lose social connections is proving the words of Genesis even more true:

"It is not good for the man to be alone."

For guys in the grip of porn and sexual addiction, isolation is an even bigger issue. God's word has many things to say about this:

"Like a bird that strays from its nest is a man who strays from his home." - Proverbs 27:8 ESV

"Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire; he breaks out against all sound judgment." - Proverbs 18:1 ESV
